Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 4197

O Allah, I ask You for its [the wind's] goodness, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa khayra ma ursilat bihi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ma fiha, wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.

When to Read

It's a beautiful supplication to recite when you feel the chill setting in, or when a cold spell is forecast. It acknowledges that all weather phenomena, good or bad, come from Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), and we should seek His protection and blessing in all circumstances.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands slightly if you feel comfortable, although it's not a strict requirement for this specific supplication. Focus on the meaning of seeking Allah's protection from the potential harm of the cold and asking for the benefits it might bring, such as a reminder of our reliance on Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies the Sunnah of seeking refuge and asking Allah for the best during times of potentially difficult weather. By reciting it, we acknowledge Allah's power over all creation and express our dependence on Him. It's a way to turn a potentially uncomfortable experience into an act of worship, fostering a deeper connection with our Creator and seeking His mercy and protection from any harm the cold might bring, such as illness or difficulty.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when the wind blew violently, used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa khayra ma ursilat bihi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ma fiha, wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.' (O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.)
