Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1375

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this place, the goodness of its people, and the goodness of all that You have decreed within it. I seek refuge in You from the evil of this place, the evil of its people, and the evil of all that You have decreed within it. O Allah, I ask You for its provision and the provision of its people, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil of all that You have decreed within it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ahliha wa khaira ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha. Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqaha wa rizqa ahliha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.

When to Read

This dua is recommended when arriving at a new town or city, whether for travel, residence, or even a brief stop. It's especially pertinent when facing unfamiliar environments where weather conditions might be unpredictable or harsh. Recite it upon sighting the settlement or upon entering its boundaries.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. It's best to say it upon arrival, ideally after a brief moment of reflection. Raise your hands slightly if you feel a strong connection to the supplication, but it's not a strict requirement. Focus on the meaning of seeking good and protection from the Creator, acknowledging His dominion over all circumstances, including the weather.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication seeks the best from a place and its inhabitants while asking for protection from any potential harm or ill-fortune. When traveling, especially through areas known for extreme weather like heavy storms, intense heat, or biting cold, this dua encapsulates a request for Allah's safeguarding. It acknowledges that the 'goodness' and 'evil' of a place and its conditions are entirely under Allah's control, thus directing our plea to the One who can truly provide protection and provision.

Source & Authentication

Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were on a journey, and the clouds gathered. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the clouds.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this wind, the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. I seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.' Then he said: 'When the wind blows vigorously, it is a gust of punishment sent to torment people. When it subsides, it brings good tidings.' (Sahih Muslim 1375). While this hadith specifically mentions wind, the principle of seeking good and refuge from Allah applies to all forms of extreme weather encountered during travel.
