Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1376

O Allah, bless our fruits, bless our village, bless our measure (sa'), and bless our measure (mudd). O Allah, make in the city five branches of the thorny trees, and make for every nut a husk, and protect it from every straying creature and invader.

Allahumma barik lana fi thamarina, wa barik lana fi qaryatina, wa barik lana fi sa'ina, wa barik lana fi muddina. Allahumma ij'al bil-madinati khamsata awraqin minal-'idhaahi, waj'al likulli jawzatin qinwa'an, wahfadh-ha min kulli sarihin wa dakheelin.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is best recited when planting seeds, tending to crops, or when you notice the early signs of a potential pest infestation or poor growth. It is suitable for farmers and anyone involved in agriculture, asking Allah for His continuous blessing and protection over their produce.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, looking towards the sky. It's recommended to face the Qiblah if possible. Raise your hands as you would when making other supplications. After reciting, gently blow onto the fields or the seeds, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did when seeking blessings for dates. The dua encompasses asking for abundance in produce, blessing in the very measures used for trade and sustenance, and specific protection for the crops from harm.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua seeks Allah's direct intervention to bring *barakah* (blessing and abundance) to the harvest, ensuring it is plentiful and of good quality. It also asks for protection against pests, diseases, and any external factors that could damage the crops, safeguarding the livelihood and sustenance derived from the land. The dua's specificity in mentioning measures like the *sa'* and *mudd* highlights the importance of seeking blessing in even the smallest aspects of our provision.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abu Humayd the Sa'idi said: "We went with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the occasion of the battle of Tabuk. He said: 'O people, a physician approached me and said: 'I have something to present to you, and I have brought something for you to take to your physicians.' He said: 'This is my physician.' The people said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is it?' He said: 'It is the Arabs among you who have physicians.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about what we see in the earth?' He said: 'Allah, the Most High, said: 'Eat of its fruit when it comes to fruit, and give His due on the day of its harvest.' (6:141) And: 'Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.' (4:29) And: 'And verily, he who is patient and forgives, that would be from the things commanded by resolution.' (42:43) And: 'They ask you concerning the new moons. Say: These signs and seasons for mankind and for the pilgrimage.' (2:189) This is a sign for the seasons. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Allah has made the fruits of the trees grow in the summers and the winters, and the fruits of the earth grow in their seasons. So when the fruits appear, say: Allahumma barik lana fi thamarina, wa barik lana fi qaryatina, wa barik lana fi sa'ina, wa barik lana fi muddina. Allahumma ij'al bil-madinati khamsata awraqin minal-'idhaahi, waj'al likulli jawzatin qinwa'an, wahfadh-ha min kulli sarihin wa dakheelin.' (O Allah, bless our fruits, bless our village, bless our measure (sa'), and bless our measure (mudd). O Allah, make in the city five branches of the thorny trees, and make for every nut a husk, and protect it from every straying creature and invader.)
