الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength on my part nor any power.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited specifically when wearing a new garment. It's a beautiful way to begin, acknowledging Allah's grace in providing for you, whether it's a simple shirt or more formal attire for a significant occasion. It signifies the start of using something new with gratitude. While the hadith doesn't specifically mention a journey, wearing new clothes to embark on one is a perfect time to express this gratitude.
How to Read
Recite this dua after you have put on the new garment. Say it with sincerity and presence of heart, feeling the meaning of the words. It's not just about uttering sounds; it's about connecting with Allah and recognizing His blessings. If you are wearing multiple new items, this dua suffices for the first new garment you wear.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is profound in its acknowledgment of Allah's blessings. By saying it, you are: * **Showing Gratitude:** You are thanking Allah for the provision of clothing, a basic necessity that we often take for granted. * **Acknowledging Tawhid (Oneness of Allah):** You recognize that any provision, including clothing, comes solely from Allah, not from your own might or effort. This purifies your intention and strengthens your reliance on Him. * **Seeking Protection:** The garment is a means of covering and protection. This dua implicitly asks Allah to bless this means of protection and to keep you safe from any harm that might be associated with it or through it. * **A Path to Reward:** The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ar-rawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah, then all his previous sins are forgiven.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, graded Hasan).

Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) wore a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban, and then he would say: 'O Allah, You are the One Who has clothed me. I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for. I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' Then he would say: 'Alhamdulillah alladhi kafani ma tawala.' (All praise is due to Allah Who sufficed me with what is sufficient). And Abu Dawud said: It was narrated to us by Musa bin Isma'il, from Hammad bin Salama, from Thabit, from Anas who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah, then all his previous sins are forgiven.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023).
