الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any power on my part or strength.
Al-hamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately after putting on a new garment or any piece of clothing. It's a beautiful moment to pause and connect with Allah as you prepare to face the day or engage in any activity.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely after you have finished dressing. The essence is acknowledging Allah's blessing in providing you with clothing, which is a fundamental need. It's about internalizing the gratitude and recognizing that all provision comes from Him, not from your own might. This mindful recitation helps shift your perspective from the material aspect of the clothing to the spiritual significance of the provision.
Virtues & Benefits
Wearing clothes is a blessing from Allah, shielding us from the elements and covering our `awrah` (private parts). This dua serves as a constant reminder of this `ni'mah` (blessing). By reciting it, we acknowledge that this provision is from Allah's grace, not our own doing. This cultivates humility and gratitude. Furthermore, it subtly reminds us of our obligations. Just as Allah has clothed us, we are obligated to fulfill our duties to Him, our families, and society. It encourages us to wear our clothes with dignity and consciousness, reflecting the inner purity and good character that Islam promotes. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that 'whatever Allah bestows upon a servant, they should thank Allah for it.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6508)

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban, and then say: 'Al-hamdulillahilladhi hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah' (All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this and provided it for me, without any power on my part or strength). (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1767 - the hadith is Hasan)
