โœฆ

Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.

*Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwatin*

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when wearing new clothes. For a job interview, it's especially meaningful to say this as you put on your interview attire. It acknowledges that any success or good appearance comes from Allah, not solely from your own efforts. Imagine yourself standing tall, ready for the interview, and as you adjust your tie or straighten your shirt, you make this sincere supplication.

How to Read

Recite this dua with heartfelt sincerity after you have put on your chosen clothes for the interview. Focus on the meaning of gratitude and reliance on Allah. It's a personal moment of connection before you step out into the world. Even if it's not a brand-new outfit, the intention of seeking Allah's blessings on your attire for this important occasion is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua expresses deep gratitude to Allah for His provision and protection. By acknowledging that this provision is without your own strength or power ('hawl' and 'quwwah'), you are humbling yourself before your Creator. This act of humility is beloved to Allah and can open doors to His blessings and assistance, which is precisely what you need for a successful interview. It reminds us that ultimately, success is in His hands.

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: When Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ) wore new clothes, he would mention its name (e.g., a turban, a shirt, or a cloak), and then say: 'I seek refuge in Allah from its evil and from the evil of that for which it was made.' Then he would praise Allah and say: 'O Allah, to You be praise, as You have clothed me. I ask You for its good and the good of what it contains, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and from the evil of what it contains.' Then he would praise Allah and say: 'Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi kafani wa 'awlani wa hadani wa amsaka bihi...' (This is a different narration of a similar concept). Later, the specific wording about wearing a garment was clarified and became the widely known dua: Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: The Messenger of Allah (๏ทบ) said: 'Whoever wears a garment for the sake of Allah, Allah will clothe him with a garment of Paradise; and whoever wears a garment for the sake of this world, Allah will clothe him with a garment of humiliation.' (This highlights the intention behind wearing clothes). And concerning the specific dua: It was narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that the Prophet (๏ทบ) said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi kasani hadha th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwatin (Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself), then all his previous sins will be forgiven.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, graded Hasan by Al-Albani).
