الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part.
Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited when wearing a new garment, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a cloak, or any other item of clothing. It's a beautiful expression of gratitude for the blessing of covering and the provision of clothing.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely with a grateful heart after putting on a new piece of clothing. It's a moment to acknowledge Allah's favor upon you. Some scholars mention reciting it before putting on the garment if you have multiple new items, or after if it’s just one.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua teaches us humility and gratitude. By acknowledging that the ability to acquire and wear clothes is from Allah and not our own doing, we protect ourselves from arrogance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also mentioned a supplication for the person who gives you a garment: 'May Allah let you wear the garment of righteousness, and exchange your repentance [with His forgiveness]...' (Tirmidhi 1768). This connects the worldly blessing of clothing with the spiritual blessing of righteousness.

(Reported by Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and others, graded Hasan). Another narration adds: 'And whoever wears a new garment and wears it for his life, will be protected by Allah and will live a praiseworthy life.' (Reported by Tirmidhi, also Hasan).
