الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin
When to Read
This dua is recommended to be recited immediately after putting on a new garment. It can be a simple t-shirt, a formal dress, or even a new pair of shoes. The key is that it's a new item of clothing that you are wearing for the first time.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely, with the intention of thanking Allah for His provision. Feel the gratitude for this blessing, acknowledging that all ability and provision comes from Him alone. It’s a personal reflection and expression of thanks.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses gratitude for Allah's blessing of clothing, which is a basic necessity for our comfort and modesty. By reciting it, we acknowledge that this provision is from Allah, not from our own might. This humble acknowledgment is a key aspect of showing true gratitude. It also serves as a reminder of our dependence on Allah, which can help protect us from arrogance. While the dua itself is for gratitude, the underlying principle of acknowledging blessings and seeking Allah’s help is a shield against negative energies like the evil eye and jealousy, as it keeps our focus firmly on our Creator.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When a person wears a new garment, he should say: (mentioning the dua). Then he should say: O Allah, I ask You for the good of it and the good of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of it and the evil of what it was made for. (Sunan Abi Dawud 4022, graded Hasan by Al-Albani. Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1771, graded Hasan Gharib). This hadith shows the Prophet's ﷺ emphasis on seeking good and refuge when acquiring new things, including clothing.
