Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4025

All praise is due to Allah, Who clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from my side.

When to Read

This dua is recited when wearing new clothes, whether it's a new shirt, pants, or any garment. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge Allah's blessing every time you adorn yourself with something new. The sentiment of seeking Allah's help for anything you undertake, especially difficult tasks, can be carried with you throughout the day, amplified by this beautiful remembrance.

How to Read

Recite this dua after you have put on the new garment. Speak it with sincerity, reflecting on the blessing of being clothed and the provision from Allah. The understanding that this provision is not due to your own might but from Allah is key to its spirit. When facing a difficult task, carrying this spirit of reliance on Allah throughout your day, remembering the 'ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin' (without any strength or power from my side), is the practical application.

Virtues & Benefits

Wearing new clothes is a blessing from Allah. Reciting this dua shows gratitude and acknowledges that all provisions come from Him alone, not from our own abilities or efforts. This mindset of reliance ('tawakkul') is crucial, especially when facing challenges. By remembering that even the ability to wear new clothes is a gift, we remind ourselves that the strength to overcome difficulties also comes from Allah. This dua fosters humility and strengthens our connection to the Creator, reminding us to seek His help in all matters, big or small.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: When one of you wears new clothes, he should say: And when one of his clothes wears out, he should say: (Al-hamdu lillahi 'ala kulli hal) - 'All praise is due to Allah in all circumstances.'
