Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is for Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.

Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah

This beautiful dua is recited when putting on any new piece of clothing, whether it’s a shirt, trousers, a veil, or any garment. It’s a moment to pause and reflect on Allah's blessings, acknowledging that this provision comes directly from Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and gratitude as you put on the new garment. It's a personal supplication, a way to thank Allah for His blessing and to acknowledge your dependence on Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses profound meanings. Firstly, it expresses gratitude to Allah for the blessing of clothing, which is a fundamental need for modesty and protection from the elements. Secondly, it signifies humility by acknowledging that the ability to acquire and wear this clothing is not due to one's own might or effort, but solely by Allah's grace and provision. This helps guard against arrogance and keeps the heart in a state of constant reliance on the Creator. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to remind us that every blessing, no matter how seemingly small, originates from Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If one of you wears a new garment, he should mention the name of Allah (say Bismillah), and then thank Him and say: 'All praise is for Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.' (Or he may say:) 'O Allah, praise be to You as You have clothed me. I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.'
