Dua for Wearing New Clothes: Clothed in Faith and Piety

Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any power or strength from myself.

Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.

When to Read

This dua is recited when wearing a new garment, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a scarf, or any other item of clothing. It's a beautiful moment to pause and express gratitude to Allah for providing this blessing, recognizing that it comes directly from His grace, not from our own might.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and heartfelt gratitude upon putting on a new piece of clothing. It's an opportunity to reflect on Allah's blessings in our lives, both tangible and intangible. The act of wearing new clothes is often accompanied by a sense of renewal, and this dua channels that feeling into thankfulness to the One who truly clothes us – in every sense of the word.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies the core Islamic principle of acknowledging Allah's blessings. By reciting it, we recognize that even something as seemingly simple as clothing is a provision from Allah. This cultivates humility and reinforces our dependence on Him. It also serves as a reminder to seek spiritual clothing – faith, modesty, and good character – which are far more valuable than any physical garment.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a new garment and says: All praise is due to Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any power or strength from myself, then all of his previous sins are forgiven.'
