الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah, Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.

Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when you wear a new garment, whether it's a shirt, pants, a scarf, or any other piece of clothing. It's a moment to pause and acknowledge the blessing of having clothes, something so fundamental yet easily taken for granted.

How to Read

As you put on the new clothing, take a moment to appreciate its texture, its color, and the fact that you possess it. Then, with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude, recite this dua. Feel the words as they express your reliance on Allah for this provision.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua upon wearing new clothes carries immense blessings. It's an acknowledgment of Allah's grace, recognizing that our ability to acquire and wear clothes is entirely from Him, not from our own might. This humility strengthens our connection with Allah and earns His pleasure. It also serves as a reminder that clothing is a trust from Allah, a means of covering our *awrah* and protecting us. We should use this trust responsibly, choosing garments that are modest and pleasing to Him.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: When Allah's Messenger ﷺ used to wear a new garment, he would mention its name (like) a shirt or a turban, and then say: 'O Allah, You have clothed me with (this garment), I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' And when he wore a new camel or a new pair of sandals, he would take hold of his right leg (for sandals) or say (for a camel) like that. And then he would say: 'All praise is due to Allah, Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.' (Reported by Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, who said it is Hasan).
