الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately after putting on a new garment or any garment. It’s a moment of reflection, acknowledging that this blessing comes from Allah alone.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincerity and gratitude after you have finished dressing. Take a moment to feel the fabric and realize the grace of Allah in providing for you. Some scholars mention that the Prophet ﷺ would often wear the new garment on his right side, starting with the right arm or right leg, and so too should one put on the new garment from the right side.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua expresses deep gratitude to Allah for providing clothing, a fundamental necessity. It reminds us that all provisions, even the ability to wear clothes, come from His grace, not our own might. By acknowledging this, we cultivate humility and strengthen our reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). Furthermore, clothing is not just physical protection but also a symbol of dignity and honor. This dua, by asking for clothing, implicitly asks for the covering of our faults and the adornment of our character, mirroring the concept of being clothed in faith (Iman) and righteousness.

Narrated Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri: When the Prophet ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name (e.g., a shirt or a turban) and say: 'Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah.'
