โœฆ

All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, though I myself did not have the strength nor the means.

Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah

When to Read

This dua should be recited immediately after putting on new clothes or any garment. It's a beautiful moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's blessings as you cover yourself.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart as you are wearing the clothing. It's best recited when the garment is fully on. Focus on the meaning of gratitude for the provision and the covering. Imagine the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ saying these words, connecting you to his practice.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates gratitude for provision, recognizing that all blessings, including the ability to acquire and wear clothes, come from Allah alone. It counters arrogance and fosters humility by acknowledging our own lack of inherent power to achieve such blessings. The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ taught this dua to remind us that even seemingly simple acts, like wearing clothes, are acts of worship when done with the right intention and remembrance of Allah. It also implicitly asks Allah to cover our faults and sins, just as the clothing covers our bodies.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah (All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, though I myself did not have the strength nor the means), then he will be forgiven his past and future sins.' [Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1767 - Hasan]. The wording in Tirmidhi is: 'He (the Prophet) was brought a garment and he wore it. Then he said: Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani min ath-thawbi ma tuwari bihi 'awrati wa atajammalu bihi fi hayati. Then he raised his hands and said: O Allah, grant us of our desires what is pleasing to You and make it what it is for us. And the remaining (verse) is like that.' This indicates the gratitude for covering one's 'awrah and beautifying oneself in this life.
