الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited immediately after putting on any new piece of clothing, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a scarf, or any garment. It's a moment to pause and reflect as you adorn yourself, acknowledging the blessing of being covered.
How to Read
As you put on the new clothing, recite this dua with sincerity and heartfelt gratitude. Feel the significance of Allah's provision and His grace in covering you. It's a personal moment of connection, so speak it with quiet devotion.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is incredibly profound. Firstly, it acknowledges that the ability to wear clothes, the clothes themselves, and the means to acquire them are all from Allah. We have no inherent power or strength to achieve these things. Secondly, and perhaps more deeply, it subtly connects the outward covering of our bodies with the inward spiritual covering of our faults and sins. Just as Allah conceals our physical 'awrah' (nakedness), we are implicitly asking Him to continue to conceal our shortcomings and sins from the sight of creation and from His own Divine judgment.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wore a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban, and then say: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ. (All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself.) He would then forbid his companions from wearing it for a day and a night. (Reported by Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, who graded it Hasan).
