Praise be to Allah, who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any might or power from my side.
When to Read
This dua should be recited immediately after putting on a new garment or any garment at the start of the day. It's a moment to pause and reflect as you dress yourself, acknowledging Allah's blessings.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. The act of wearing clothes is a blessing, and this supplication humbles us, recognizing that all provision comes from Allah alone. It's an acknowledgment of our dependence on Him and a request for Him to cover our physical shortcomings, just as the clothing covers our bodies.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses several profound meanings. Firstly, it expresses gratitude to Allah for the provision of clothing, which is a basic necessity for protection and modesty. Secondly, by stating 'without any might or power from my side,' it reinforces the concept of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and acknowledges that our ability to earn or obtain such blessings is entirely from Him. It also subtly connects to the idea of Allah covering our faults and sins, just as the garment covers our bodies. When we wear new clothes, we are asking Allah to bless them for us and, by extension, to continue to conceal our shortcomings from the eyes of creation.
Source & Authentication
When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to wear a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt, a turban, or a cloak, and say: (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1767. The hadith is classified as Hasan by some scholars.)
