الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power on my part.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited when you put on new clothes or even when wearing your regular attire. It's a moment to pause and acknowledge the immense blessing of having clothing, something many take for granted. Think of it as a personal 'Alhamdulillah' for the covering and protection that clothes provide, and a recognition that this provision comes solely from Allah.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely when you are about to wear a new garment or any clothing. Utter the words with a sense of gratitude and humility, acknowledging Allah's grace in providing for you. It's not just about the words; it's about the feeling behind them – a recognition of dependence on our Creator. Ideally, say it just as you are putting on the garment.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful reminder of our dependence on Allah for even the most basic necessities like clothing. It fosters humility by acknowledging that any provision or strength we have is a gift from Him, not from our own capabilities. By expressing gratitude for this blessing, we invite further blessings and protection from Allah. It also subtly encourages us to reflect on the clothing itself – ensuring it aligns with Islamic ethics, such as modesty and appropriateness.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a garment for the sake of Allah, Allah will clothe him in a garment of Paradise. And whoever wears a garment for the sake of showing off and seeking renown, Allah will clothe him in a similar garment on the Day of Resurrection, and then it will be set ablaze. And whoever wears a garment and says: 'Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin' (All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power on my part), his past sins will be forgiven.'
