الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any power or strength on my part.
Alhamdulillah alladhee kasanee hadha ath-thawba wa razaqaneehi min ghayri hawlin minnee wa la quwwah
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited when you put on new clothes, or even when putting on any clothing. It’s a moment to pause and acknowledge the blessing of being able to cover ourselves, which is a fundamental need and a sign of Allah’s mercy.
How to Read
Recite this with sincerity and understanding, focusing on the meaning of each word. It’s best recited as you are actually putting on the garment or immediately after. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we are clothed, we should remember Allah’s grace in providing this attire.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua is a powerful way to remember Allah’s blessings in our lives. It reminds us that everything we have, including the clothes on our back, is from Allah, not through our own might or ability. This fosters humility and gratitude. Furthermore, it connects us to the Sunnah, earning us reward for following the Prophet’s ﷺ example. It also serves as a subtle reminder of accountability – just as Allah has provided us with coverings in this world, we are accountable to Him for how we present ourselves and what we wear.
