O Allah, I ask You for the good of this (clothing) and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this (clothing) and the evil for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of every envier when he envies.
Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayrihi wa khayri ma huwa lah, wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma huwa lah, wa a'udhu bika min sharri kulli hasidin idha hasad.
When to Read
This dua is specifically recommended to be recited when one puts on new clothes, whether it's a new shirt, a new pair of trousers, a new jilbab, or any garment. It's a beautiful way to seek Allah's protection and blessing for the new attire and to ward off any potential harm from the evil eye (hasad) that might arise from its newness or beauty.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction as you are about to wear the new garment. It's best to say it before the clothing fully covers your body. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging that all goodness and protection comes from Allah alone. The act of seeking refuge in Allah is a powerful shield against negativity.
Virtues & Benefits
Wearing new clothes can sometimes attract the envious eye, even unintentionally. By reciting this dua, you are actively seeking Allah's protection for yourself and for the garment. It acknowledges that any admiration for the new clothing should be directed towards Allah's blessings, and it preemptively shields you from the negative spiritual impact of envy. It reminds us that even seemingly mundane situations can be opportunities for seeking divine protection and acknowledging Allah's blessings.
