Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from my side.

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī kasanī hādhā ath-thawba wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwatin

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited immediately after putting on a new garment or any piece of clothing. It's a perfect moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's blessings before the outfit becomes a part of our daily lives.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a humble heart right after you have finished dressing. Feel the gratitude as you say it. It's a private moment of connection between you and your Creator, so it can be said quietly.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua serves as a powerful reminder that all blessings, including the clothes we wear, are from Allah. By reciting it, we safeguard ourselves against feelings of pride or arrogance that can arise from our appearance. It shifts our focus from the material to the Giver, protecting us from being overly distracted by worldly adornments and helping us remember our reliance on Allah's provision, not our own might.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he wore a new garment, would mention by name the shirt, the vest, and the cloak. He would then say: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ. (Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī kasanī hādhā ath-thawba wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwatin). If the garment was one that was worn out, he would say: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَفَانِي وَآوَانِي. (Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī kafānī wa āwānī). - Sunan Abu Dawud 4023
