الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part.
Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately after putting on new clothes, or any garment for that matter. It's a beautiful practice to acknowledge Allah's blessing upon receiving something as basic as clothing, which we often take for granted.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely with awareness of the meaning. As you put on the garment, pause for a moment and utter these words of gratitude and humility. It’s a personal reflection on Allah’s provision. Imagine yourself in a state of humility, recognizing that this clothing, like everything else, is a gift from your Creator.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it embodies the Islamic principle of gratitude (shukr) for Allah's blessings, even those seemingly mundane like clothing. Secondly, by acknowledging that this provision is 'without any strength or power on my part,' it reinforces Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance solely on Him. This humility can be a means of seeking Allah’s forgiveness, as acknowledging our own weakness and dependence on Him is a path to His mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a way to express thankfulness and recognize Allah's sovereignty in all aspects of life, leading to His pleasure and potentially His forgiveness.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name – whether a shirt or a turban – and then say: 'O Allah, you are the One Who clothed me. I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for. I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' Then he would say: 'Al-hamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.' (Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part).
