اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provisions, and accepted deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited immediately upon waking up, before even getting out of bed or engaging with the day. It sets the tone for your entire day, asking Allah for blessings in three crucial areas: knowledge, sustenance, and deeds. While not directly mentioning backbiting, the request for 'accepted deeds' encompasses all our actions, including our speech. By seeking Allah's help for righteous actions from the start of the day, we implicitly ask for His protection from sinful ones like gossip and backbiting.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention. Imagine the words entering your heart. Focus on each part of the request: asking for knowledge that benefits you and others, for pure and lawful provisions, and for deeds that Allah will accept from you. This humble request is a powerful way to align your day with what pleases Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) as the dua he would say upon waking, is a comprehensive request for a blessed day. Beneficial knowledge guides us, good provisions sustain us in lawful ways, and accepted deeds are the ultimate goal. By asking for accepted deeds, we are asking Allah to help us guard our tongues from harmful speech, including backbiting and gossip, as these are certainly not among the deeds He accepts. It's a proactive way to seek spiritual protection and productivity.
