Alhamdulillahilladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatanaa wa ilaihin-nushoor.
When to Read
Immediately upon waking up from sleep. This is the foundational dua upon arising, setting a tone of gratitude and reliance on Allah before the day begins and its challenges emerge, including those related to temper.
How to Read
Recite this simple, yet profound, declaration of gratitude upon feeling fully awake. It’s often recited after turning over in bed or sitting up. The intention is to acknowledge Allah's power over life and death and to reaffirm our return to Him, fostering humility and dependence.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua establishes a mindful connection with Allah from the very start of the day. By acknowledging His power over life and death, we're reminded of our own mortality and dependence on Him, which can instill patience and a lesser focus on fleeting worldly frustrations. The gratitude expressed can shift our perspective, making us more inclined to seek Allah's help in managing our emotions, like anger and impatience, throughout the day.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) woke up at night, he would say: 'Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah. Praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest! And there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Exalted, the Mighty.' Then he would say: 'O Allah, forgive me,' or he would supplicate. He would then say: 'Praise be to Allah Who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.'
