The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you wakes up, he should say: Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi rad-da ilayya roohi, wa 'afani fi jasadi, wa azina li bi dhikrihi (All praise is for Allah Who returned my soul to me, and kept my body healthy, and permitted me to remember Him). And if he wakes up from the end of the day, he should say the same, and these are the concluding words: 'wa ilaihin-nushoor' (and to Him is the resurrection).' (Note: While the full hadith often includes mentioning the soul and health, the portion regarding thanking Allah for life and His dominion is fundamental and universally applicable upon waking. The specific version 'wa ilaihin-nushoor' is also found in authentic narrations concerning waking.)
