الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Praise be to Allah, Who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilahin-nushur.
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately upon waking up from sleep, as the first words of remembrance for the day.
How to Read
Recite this with sincerity and gratitude as soon as you become aware that you are awake. It's a beautiful way to start your day by acknowledging Allah's power over life and death.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a foundational expression of gratitude and recognition of Allah's sovereignty. While it doesn't directly ask for forgiveness for specific sins committed *while asleep* (as one is generally not accountable for actions during unconsciousness), it encompasses a general seeking of Allah's mercy and a fresh start. The act of waking is itself a blessing, as it signifies another opportunity to worship Allah and strive for good. By beginning the day with such praise, we set a positive spiritual tone, seeking Allah's favor and protection for whatever the day may bring, which indirectly guards us from falling into greater error.

Narrated Hudhaifa: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) got up for night prayer, he would say: Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah! Far removed is Allah from imperfection. O Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth! O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne! Our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, Revealer of the Torah and the Injil and the Quran, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You have seized by its forelock. O Allah! You are the First and there is nothing before You; You are the Last and there is nothing after You; You are the Outwardly apparent and there is nothing above You; You are the Inwardly hidden and there is nothing nearer than You. Relieve us of our debt and enrich us from poverty. And when he woke up from sleep, he would say: Praise be to Allah, Who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the return.
