الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
All praise is for Allah Who brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
Al-hamdulillahilladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatanaa, wa ilaihin-nushoor.
When to Read
This beautiful declaration of gratitude should be recited immediately upon waking up, before any other action. It sets the tone for your entire day, reminding you that life itself is a blessing from Allah, a gift that deserves sincere appreciation and purposeful use.
How to Read
Recite this with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. Reflect on the fact that waking up each morning is a new opportunity granted by Allah. Consider the immense power it takes for Him to give life and to bring about the final resurrection. Let this dua be a conscious acknowledgment of His sovereignty and your dependence on Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a foundational expression of thankfulness for the blessing of life. By acknowledging Allah as the Giver of life and the One to whom we will all return, we consciously align ourselves with His will. This framing of our day, starting with gratitude and remembrance of the Hereafter, naturally fosters a sense of purpose. When we recognize that each breath is a gift and our return to Allah is certain, the temptation of laziness and procrastination loses its grip. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to remind us of our blessings and our ultimate accountability, which are powerful motivators against idleness.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he woke up at night, used to say: 'La ilaha illallah, the One Who has no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and He is Able to do all things. La ilaha illallah, the One who responded to His command, and helped His servant, and defeated the confederates alone.' Then he would supplicate for his needs after saying that. And when he woke up in the morning, he would say: 'Al-hamdulillahilladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatanaa, wa ilaihin-nushoor.' (All praise is for Allah Who brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.)
