Narrated Hudhaifa: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) got up for the night (to offer his prayers), he used to say: 'Allahu Akbar!' He used to glorify Allah, then say: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdik, wa tabarak-al-mismuk, wa ta'ala jadduk, wa la ilaha ghairuk.' (Allah is the Greatest! Glorified are You, O Allah, and praised! Blessed is Your Name, and Exalted is Your Majesty! There is none worthy of worship but You). Then he would say: 'La ilaha ill-Allah' three times, and then say: 'Allah-u Akbar Kabir!' (Allah is the Greatest!). Then he would say: 'Subhan Allah 'asa-a-wa-wa-bii-hamdik!' (Glorified is Allah, with my praise) then: 'Astaghfirullah' (I seek forgiveness from Allah). He would say: 'La ilaha ill-Allah.' He would say: 'Rabb-i A'udhu bika min din al-harbi wa min sharri 'adhabil-qabri.' (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the torment of the Fire and from the torment of the grave). He would say: 'La ilaha ill-Allah 'u'u-dhu bika min dunya wa 'adhabiha.' (There is none worthy of worship but Allah! I seek refuge in You from this world and its evils). Then he would say: 'Astaghfirullah 'innaka anta al-Ghafur-ur-rahim.' (I seek forgiveness from Allah! Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful). Then he would say: 'Allah-umma-ghfir li khata-ya kama qada-ytaha.' (O Allah! Forgive my sins as You have decreed them). Then he would say: 'Allahumma zidni 'ilman wa la tuzigh qalbi ba'da idh hadaytani, wa habli min ladunka rahmatan innaka anta al-Wahhab.' (O Allah! Increase me in knowledge and do not make my heart deviate after You have guided it and grant me mercy from You. Verily, You are the Grantor of Gifts). Then he would say: 'Subhanaka Rabbika Rabbil-'izzati 'amma yasifun, wa salamun 'alar-rusuli wal-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'alamin.' (Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of honour, from what they describe, and peace be upon the messengers, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds). When he got up from sleep, he would say: 'Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amata-na, wa ilaih-in-nushur.' (All the praises are for Allah Who revived us after He had caused us to die and unto Him is the rising again).
