الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after bringing us death, and to Him is the resurrection.
Al-hamdulillahilladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushur.
When to Read
Immediately upon waking from sleep. This is one of the very first things the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to do, setting the tone for the day with gratitude and acknowledgement of Allah's power.
How to Read
Recite this with sincere conviction, reflecting on the profound blessing of being granted another day. It's a moment of quiet contemplation before the day's activities begin. Some scholars also mention the practice of cleansing oneself and then reciting other duas for waking, but this particular dua is the foundational expression of thanks.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful affirmation of our dependence on Allah. It reminds us that life itself is a gift from Him, and that our return is ultimately to Him. By starting the day with this, we set our intention to live consciously under Allah's dominion, seeking His guidance and strength to be positive influences – beacons of guidance ourselves, embodying the faith we profess.
