Narrated Hudhaifah: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) got up for night prayer, he would say: Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah! Allah is the Greatest! I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created. (And if he recited this thrice): Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah! Allah is the Greatest! I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the jinn and men. (And if he uttered this thrice): Allah is the Greatest! Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah! Allah is the Greatest! I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the wind. He would then talk about the remaining part of the verse: 'The people of the Fire and the people of Paradise shall not be equal.' (35:6) The above narration is narrated by Muslim, but in his version, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah! Allah is the Greatest!' and he did not say: 'Allah is the Greatest!' at the beginning. In Sahih al-Bukhari, it is narrated: The Prophet (ﷺ) when rising from sleep would say: Glory be to Allah! Praise be to Allah! There is no god but Allah! Allah is the Greatest! (Sahih Muslim 2708). The narration in Sahih al-Bukhari 6306 is: 'Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor.' (All praise is for Allah, Who revived us after He had caused us to die, and to Him is our return).
