اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُوْرُ

All praise is for Allah, who brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor.

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately upon waking up. While the primary focus of this specific dua is gratitude for life itself, we can elevate its intention. As soon as you feel conscious and ready to face the day, make the sincere intention in your heart to use this renewed life and energy to seek, understand, and then share the beautiful teachings of Islam. This intention transforms a routine act into a powerful spiritual endeavor.

How to Read

Upon waking, before moving or engaging with worldly matters, take a moment to reflect. Recite this dua with a sincere heart, feeling the gratitude for the blessing of life. Then, internally reaffirm your intention to learn and teach about Islam. This combination of sincere utterance and heartfelt intention is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This foundational dua expresses profound gratitude to Allah for the gift of life. By adding the intention to spread Islamic knowledge, we tap into the immense reward of teaching what is pleasing to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Whoever is asked about knowledge and conceals it, will be bridled with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection." (Sunan Ibn Majah 261). Spreading knowledge, therefore, is a way to fulfill a great trust and earn continuous reward, as the Prophet ﷺ also said: "When a person dies, all of his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him." (Sahih Muslim 1631).
