Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a holistic approach to a productive and righteous day. By asking for 'beneficial knowledge' ('ilman nafi'an), you're not just seeking any knowledge, but knowledge that leads to good and wards off harm. 'Pure provision' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that what sustains you is lawful and free from doubt, bringing peace to your heart. Finally, asking for 'accepted deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) means striving to do acts of worship and good works in a way that is pleasing to Allah, ensuring your efforts are rewarded.

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) woke up, he would say: Praise be to Allah! To Him belongs all praise. There is no god but Allah. Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and from the evil of every beast that Allah has seized by the forelock. O Allah, all praise is for Thee, Thou art the Keeper of the Heavens and the Earth and whatever is in them. All praise is for Thee, Thou hast the best way of dealing with Thy creatures. O Allah, Thou art my Companion in the journey and Thou art the Successor in my family. O Allah, make my heart light and my burden heavy, and make me beloved to all people and keep me free from need. And when he went to bed, he would say: O Allah, I have surrendered my face unto Thee and have committed my affairs unto Thee and have made Thee the object of my desire and fear. There is no refuge and no deliverance from Thee except towards Thee. O Allah, I have believed in Thy Book which Thou hast revealed and believed in Thy Messenger whom Thou hast sent. And when he woke up in the night, he would say: (Praise be to Allah) There is no god but Allah, and He it is Who has power over all things. Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no might but with Allah, the Exalted, the Great. And then he would say: O Allah, forgive me my sins or have mercy on me, and turn my repentance into forgiveness. And he would say: O Allah, grant me guidance and righteousness and chastity and riches. And in another narration: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) got up for the night prayer, he would say: Allah is the Greatest. (O Allah!) To Thee I betake myself for protection against the evil of all that Thou hast created. And when he woke up in the morning, he would say: Praise be to Allah Who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and unto Him is the resurrection. Allah, grant me beneficial knowledge, and pure provision, and accepted deeds.
