Waking Up
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6325

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ ٱلَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ

All praise is for Allah, Who revived us after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Alhamdulillahi alladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately upon waking up. It sets the tone for the entire day, reminding us that our ability to experience another day is a gift from Allah. By acknowledging this gift and the ultimate return to Him, we cultivate a mindset that is less likely to be overcome by the inevitable challenges that may arise.

How to Read

Recite this once, with sincerity and contemplation, as soon as you become aware you are awake. Understand that every morning is a new lease on life, and with that comes the responsibility to face whatever Allah has decreed with patience and reliance on Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful expression of gratitude acknowledges Allah's power over life and death, reinforcing our reliance on Him. When we wake up with this on our lips, we are reminded that our return to Him is certain. This perspective helps us to view the day's difficulties not as insurmountable obstacles, but as tests from our Creator that we can face with His help. It fosters a deep sense of contentment and reduces anxiety about what the day may hold, as we entrust our affairs to the One who controls all.
