Dua for Waking Up with Enthusiasm for Worship

Waking Up
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

All praise is for Allah Who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor.

When to Read

This is the foundational dua to recite immediately upon waking. It's not just about acknowledging you're alive, but about setting the right intention for the day. Imagine the feeling of a fresh start, a new opportunity granted by Allah. This is the perfect moment to ask Him to fill that opportunity with the desire to worship Him.

How to Read

Recite this supplication as soon as you become aware that you are awake. You can say it while still in bed, or after sitting up. The key is sincerity and directing your heart towards Allah. This isn't a rote recitation; it's a sincere expression of gratitude and a request for guidance towards worship.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua cultivates gratitude for the gift of life, a blessing often taken for granted. It implicitly asks Allah to guide our actions throughout the day towards what pleases Him, thus fostering enthusiasm for worship. By acknowledging the 'death' of sleep and the 'life' of wakefulness, we are reminded of our ultimate return to Allah, which should motivate us to use our waking hours wisely.
