Narrated Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him): Whenever the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ got up for the night (to offer his prayers), he would say: 'Allah-u-Akbar! La ilaha illa Allah, thrice, and then recited the following verses: 'Allah-u-Akbar! La ilaha illa Allah. (Allah is the Greatest! None has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Then he would say: 'Glory be to Allah! How perfect is Allah! I have praised Him! (Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi) O Allah! I seek refuge from the cursed Satan.' (Allah-u-Akbar! La ilaha illa Allah. Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi. Allah-umma inni a'udhu bika min-ash-shaitan-in-najis). Then he would finish his recitation (of the Quran). And he would say: 'Praise is due to Allah, Who has made me alive and I am His slave. Praise is due to Allah, Who has kept my soul in me till this day. Praise is due to Allah, Who has kept me healthy in my body. Praise is due to Allah, Who has provided me with food for the day and the night. Praise is due to Allah, Who has taught me what I did not know, and what is more, Allah has bestowed upon me Islam.' He would say thrice: 'Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor.' (All praise is for Allah, Who has brought us back to life after death, and to Him is the gathering).
