Dua for Unity and Healing of Divisive Issues within the Ummah

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 907

O Allah, unite our hearts, and reconcile that which is between us. Guide us to the paths of peace, and deliver us from darkness to light. Bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses, and our offspring. Turn to us in repentance, for indeed, You are the Ever-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Allahumma allif bayna qulubina, wa aslih dhatta baynina, wahdina subulas-salam, wa najjina minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur, wa barik lana fi asma'ina, wa absarina, wa qulubina, wa azwajina, wa dhurriyyatina, wa tub 'alayna, innaka antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.

When to Read

This is a profound supplication that can be recited at any time, especially during moments of personal reflection, after obligatory prayers, or when observing disunity or conflict within the Muslim community. It is particularly potent when we feel overwhelmed by divisions and yearn for Allah's intervention to foster harmony.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt desire for peace and unity. Turn to the Qiblah, raise your hands (if appropriate for the time and place, like after prayer), and make this supplication. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, asking Allah to mend broken relationships and guide us towards paths of peace and understanding. Remember that genuine dua requires action; therefore, this supplication should be accompanied by efforts to promote reconciliation and understanding in our own lives and communities.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the core issues of disunity and calls upon Allah to initiate the reconciliation process. By asking Allah to 'unite our hearts' and 'reconcile that which is between us,' we acknowledge that true harmony comes from Him. The inclusion of guidance towards 'paths of peace' and deliverance 'from darkness to light' highlights the spiritual dimension of unity, moving away from ignorance and misguidance towards clarity and truth. It also encompasses well-being for our families, signifying that the ripple effect of unity starts from within our homes. The acknowledgement of our shortcomings through the request for repentance, 'Turn to us in repentance,' further refines our plea, seeking Allah’s mercy as the foundation for healing.
