For the Ummah
Hasan HadithJami' at-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need need anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for reciting daily, especially after prayers. It's particularly relevant when you feel a need for financial stability, are facing economic hardship, or simply wish to seek Allah's protection from dependence on unlawful means and reliance on anyone other than Him. We can also make this a collective dua for the entire Ummah, asking Allah to bless us with collective economic empowerment and self-sufficiency, enabling us to be independent and strong.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as you would in supplication. Understand the meaning deeply – you are asking Allah to provide you with what is permissible and to make you independent of creation. Focus on the belief that true sustenance and richness come only from Allah. For collective empowerment, one can recite this regularly in gatherings or encourage others to adopt it as a personal practice.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses two critical aspects of a Muslim's life: providing lawful sustenance and fostering independence from others. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we seek protection from falling into haram (unlawful) means of earning, which can lead to spiritual and worldly consequences. The second part, 'wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak,' is a profound request for contentment and self-sufficiency through Allah's grace. It trains the heart to rely solely on the Creator, fostering inner peace and reducing anxiety related to worldly matters. This can translate into a more productive and focused approach to earning a livelihood, contributing to personal and, by extension, communal economic well-being. When made for the Ummah, it becomes a plea for collective independence, dignity, and strength against economic exploitation.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he complained of being unable to pay his debts. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you say them, Allah will cause you to pay off your debts, even if they were as much as Mount Sir (a mountain in Yemen)? Then he said: 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.'
