Dua for the Protection of those Safeguarding Allah's Creation

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1387

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demolition of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and sorrow. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazan. Wa a'udhu bika min al-'ajzi wal-kasal. Wa a'udhu bika min al-jubni wal-buhl. Wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is perfect for reciting daily, especially when you feel overwhelmed by the challenges faced by our planet and those who advocate for its well-being. It’s particularly apt for those working on environmental issues, as it seeks Allah's protection from all forms of hardship, setbacks, and oppressive forces that might hinder their noble efforts.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. It's best to say it in a state of wudu (ablution), facing the Qibla if possible, and with a sincere intention to seek Allah's protection and support for the efforts to preserve His creation. Raise your hands slightly, as is customary when making dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a powerful shield against various afflictions. For environmental advocates, it's a means to seek refuge in Allah from the 'demolition of blessings' – perhaps referring to the destruction of natural resources or the loss of the positive impact of their work. It also seeks protection from 'helplessness and laziness,' which can be major hurdles in sustained environmental action, and 'oppression of men,' which sadly, is often faced by those who speak truth to power for the sake of Earth.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah saying: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demolition of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.'
