I seek protection for you two (your children) with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every envious eye.
U'idzukuma bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatiw wa min kulli 'ainin lammah
When to Read
This beautiful supplication is perfect for reciting when you see a child, whether it's your own, a relative's, or even one you encounter. It's particularly potent to say it with sincerity when a child is unwell, seems restless, or you simply feel a need to invoke Allah's protection over them.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used this dua when seeking refuge for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). When you recite it, intend with all your heart to seek Allah's safeguarding power. You can gently place your hand on the child's head or shoulder as you say it, and breathe gently after reciting, symbolizing the breath of life and blessing. Make sure to be in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, and face the Qibla if you can, though sincerity is the most important element.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful shield, invoking the very 'perfect words of Allah' – His divine decree and creation – to ward off harm. It covers protection from spiritual evils (shayatin), physical ailments and pests (hammah), and the harmful effects of the evil eye ('ain). By using this dua, we are following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, who understood the profound need for Allah's protection, especially for the young and vulnerable members of our Ummah. It’s a way for us to actively participate in safeguarding our children, trusting in Allah's ultimate power.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (by saying): > **Arabic:** أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ > **Translation:** 'I seek protection for you two with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every envious eye.' And then he would say: 'Ibrahim (Abraham) used to seek refuge with them (i.e., with these words) for Ishmael and Isaac.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371)
