Dua for Oppressed Muslims: Supplicating for Those Suffering Injustice

For the Ummah
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3869

اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ المُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ المُسْلِمِينَ في كُلِّ مَكَانٍ

O Allah, save the weak and oppressed Muslims everywhere.

Allahumma najjil-mustad'afeena minal-muslimeena fee kulli makaan

When to Read

This is a powerful supplication to make at any time, especially when you hear news of Muslims facing persecution, injustice, or war. Make it during the times when dua is more likely to be answered, such as after salah, during the last third of the night, or on Fridays. It's a reflection of our brotherhood and sisterhood in Islam; we feel their pain and turn to Allah for their relief.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Picture the faces of those suffering as you make the supplication. Raise your hands if possible, as is the custom when making dua. Remember that Allah hears all, and even a simple, heartfelt dua can have a profound impact. It’s not just about the words, but the state of your heart as you utter them.

Virtues & Benefits

Making dua for others is a sign of true brotherhood in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is readily answered. An angel is appointed to his side, and every time he supplicates for his brother with good, the angel appointed to him says: 'Ameen, and may you have the like of it.' (Sahih Muslim 2185). By making this dua, we not only support our brothers and sisters in faith but also invite similar blessings upon ourselves.

Source & Authentication

The narration often associated with this specific phrasing comes from Sunan Ibn Majah, graded Hasan by some scholars. While specific chains might vary in grading, the essence of supplicating for the oppressed is deeply rooted in the Sunnah and Quran. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would often make dua against oppressors and for the vulnerable. Another relevant concept is found in the Quran: 'And what is [the matter] with you that you do not fight in the cause of Allah and for the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, 'Our Lord, take us out of this city of wrongdoing people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a savior.'' (An-Nisa 4:75).
