"Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."

Rabbana atina min ladunka rahmatan wa hayyi' lana min amrina rashada.

When to Read

This is a beautiful dua to recite when reflecting on the immense trusts (amanat) Allah has placed upon us as individuals and as an Ummah. It's particularly poignant when feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities, whether they are personal duties, community obligations, or the broader trust of upholding Islam in our lives and societies. Recite it during the day, after prayers, or in the quiet hours of the night when you seek clarity and strength to manage these trusts effectively.

How to Read

Recite this verse with sincere intention and a humble heart, acknowledging your reliance on Allah. Raise your hands in supplication as the verse itself is a form of dua. Visualize the mercy and guidance you are asking for, and commit yourself to acting upon that guidance once it is received. Remember that dua is the weapon of the believer, and continuous supplication, coupled with striving, is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse is a powerful supplication from the people of the Cave (Surah Al-Kahf). It encapsulates the essence of seeking divine assistance for both spiritual and worldly affairs. By asking for mercy, we acknowledge our shortcomings and dependence on Allah's grace. By asking for right guidance ('rashad'), we are asking for the wisdom, ability, and conviction to fulfill our duties and responsibilities in the best possible manner. It's a comprehensive request for Allah's support in navigating life's challenges and discharging the trusts (amanat) placed upon us, from the smallest personal promise to the grandest societal role. The fulfillment of these 'amanat' is central to our faith, as the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ stated: "The hypocrite is three: if he speaks, he lies; if he promises, he breaks it; and if he is trusted, he betrays his trust." (Sahih al-Bukhari 33).
