Travel
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

O Allah, we seek refuge in You from this journey of ours, [guide us to] piety and righteousness, and to deeds that please You. O Allah, make the depths of the earth easy for us and make this journey and its challenges beloved to us. Protect us from the hardships and loneliness of being away from home, and grant us refuge from returning to our family, wealth, and children in a bad state, and from the prayers of those absent against us.

Allahumma inna na'udhu bika min safarina hadha al-birri wat-taqwa, wa minal 'amali fima yurdiika 'anna, Allahumma ahwi bina tawaya al-ardi wa habbib ilayna as-safara wa tawali'ihi, wakfina kawayaa al-ghurbati wa wahshatiha, wa a'idhnā min suu'il munqalabi fil-ahli wal-maali wal-waladi, wa min du'aa'il ghaa'ibi 'alayna.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mounted his camel for the journey, he would glorify Allah thrice (saying Allahu Akbar), and then he would say: 'Glory be to Allah Who has subjected this to us, we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, we are to our Lord to return. O Allah, we ask You for goodness and piety in this journey of ours, and for deeds that are pleasing to You. We ask You to make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance for us. O Allah, You are our companion on the journey and You are the successor (in guarding) our family and property. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from seeing a grievous sight, and from finding a sad sight concerning our family and property. O Allah, incline our hearts to the good and to what pleases You.' (The version used in the entry is a more comprehensive narration of a similar supplication found in Sahih Muslim 1342, which specifically addresses seeking refuge from the journey itself, guiding to piety, making travel beloved, and protection from hardships and ill fortune upon return).
