O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they overhang, Lord of the seven earths and all they bear, Lord of the devils and all they lead astray, Lord of the winds and all they scatter, I ask You for the good of this village/town, the good of its people, and the good of whatever is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, from the evil of its people, and from the evil of whatever is in it.

Allahumma Rabba samawatissab'i wama azlalna, wa Rabba al-aradinissab'i wa ma aqlalna, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wama adlalna, wa Rabba ar-riyah'i wama dharrayna, as'aluka khayra hadhihil-qaryah, wa khayra ahliha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically for when a traveler arrives at a new town or village. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge Allah's dominion over all creation and to seek His protection and blessings upon entering an unfamiliar environment. Imagine stepping off a bus or plane, entering a new city, or even just a new neighborhood – this is the perfect moment to invoke this supplication.

How to Read

Recite this dua clearly as you enter the vicinity of a new town or village. It's a prayer of both seeking good and seeking refuge, so utter it with sincere intention and a humble heart. Visualize yourself entrusting your well-being and the outcome of your stay to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala). This dua, like all supplications, is most potent when uttered with faith and conviction.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates comprehensive seeking of good and refuge. By asking for the 'good of this village, the good of its people, and the good of whatever is in it,' you are encompassing all potential blessings and positive outcomes of your stay. Simultaneously, seeking refuge from its 'evil, from the evil of its people, and from the evil of whatever is in it' provides a shield against any potential harm or negative influences. It reminds us that no matter how 'new' or 'foreign' a place may seem, it is Allah who is the ultimate Controller and Protector of all its aspects.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: If he came to a town which he wanted to enter, he would say: 'Allahumma Rabba samawatissab'i wama azlalna, wa Rabba al-aradinissab'i wa ma aqlalna, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wama adlalna, wa Rabba ar-riyah'i wama dharrayna, as'aluka khayra hadhihil-qaryah, wa khayra ahliha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha. (O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they overhang, Lord of the seven earths and all they bear, Lord of the devils and all they lead astray, Lord of the winds and all they scatter, I ask You for the good of this village/town, the good of its people, and the good of whatever is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, from the evil of its people, and from the evil of whatever is in it.)
