Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7:23

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful supplication is perfect for the traveler embarking on a journey for knowledge or to spread the message of Islam (dawah). Recite it at the beginning of your journey, or at any point when you seek Allah's blessings and guidance in your pursuit.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as you would in prayer, facing the Qiblah if possible. Utter these words with sincerity and conviction, knowing that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) is listening and ready to respond. It's recommended to first praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. You can make this dua before setting out, upon reaching your destination, or at any time during your travels when you feel the need for divine assistance.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking knowledge is a highly virtuous act in Islam, emphasized in numerous Quranic verses and Hadith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise' (Sahih Muslim 2699). This specific dua asks for three crucial elements: 'ilman naafi'an' (beneficial knowledge) – knowledge that not only benefits the individual but also others and leads to righteous action; 'rizqan tayyiban' (pure sustenance) – provisions that are lawful and pleasing to Allah, essential for a traveler; and 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (accepted deeds) – actions performed sincerely for Allah's sake, which He graciously accepts. This comprehensive dua sets the intention right for the journey, aligning the traveler's purpose with seeking Allah's pleasure.
