When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when setting out on a journey, whether for travel, moving to a new place, or even embarking on a significant outing. It's particularly vital when you know you'll be encountering new environments or people, as these can be times when one might be more susceptible to the evil eye (al-'ayn) or other forms of harm.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full belief in Allah's protection. It's best to say it before you begin your travel, ideally after your other travel duas have been recited. Focus on the meaning of seeking refuge in Allah's complete and flawless words, acknowledging His power over all creation and any potential harm.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua ensures that nothing will harm you. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this three times every morning and evening, nothing will harm him.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). While this hadith specifically mentions morning and evening, the inherent protection it offers extends to any time one seeks Allah's refuge, making it a potent shield against unseen evils, including the evil eye, especially when traveling to unfamiliar places.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): A man once came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! I was buried yesterday.' He said: 'And what happened?' He said: 'I was bitten by a scorpion.' He said: 'If you had said, when you entered your dwelling: أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ (A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq), it would not have harmed you.' Then it was narrated from him (Abu Hurayrah) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this three times every morning and evening, nothing will harm him.'
