أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly beneficial when traveling at night. As you set out after sunset, or if your journey extends into the darkness, reciting this with sincere belief can invoke Allah's protection against any hidden dangers or unseen harms that the night might bring. It’s a shield for your mind, body, and your belongings.
How to Read
Recite this dua three times in the morning and three times in the evening. However, for night travel, ensure you recite it just before you depart or as you enter the night, with a heart full of trust in Allah's safeguarding power. Focus on the meaning of seeking refuge in Allah's complete and perfect words, acknowledging His power over all creation.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a comprehensive protection. When one seeks refuge in Allah's perfect words, they are shielded from all forms of evil, whether from creatures, environmental hazards, or any malevolent influence. For a traveler, especially at night when visibility is low and dangers might be less apparent, this dua acts as a divine deterrent, ensuring peace of mind and safety throughout the journey.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what a night I have had! (I was stung by) a scorpion.' He said: 'If you had said in the evening: أعوذ بكلمات الله التامات من شر ما خلق (A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq), it would not have harmed you.' (Sahih Muslim 2708)
