Dua for Finding a Safe Haven While Traveling

Travel
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1377

O Allah, I ask of You its goodness, the goodness of its people, and the goodness of all that is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is in it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, the traveler actively seeks Allah's protection from any potential harm or negative aspects of the new location and its people, while simultaneously asking for its benefits and positive aspects. It embodies the principle of relying on Allah while taking practical steps to ensure one's safety and well-being in unfamiliar surroundings.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) descended upon a town, he would say: 'O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and what they encompass, Lord of the seven earths and what they bear, Lord of the devils and what they lead astray, Lord of the winds and what they scatter, I ask of You the goodness of this town, the goodness of its people, and the goodness of all that is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is in it.' (This narration is from Sahih Muslim, book of Hajj, chapter on the recommended du'a upon entering a town.)
