Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for such deeds as are pleasing to You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and make its distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the One Who will look after the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from seeing evil, and from the evil consequences of returning to our property and family.

Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqtarinin wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fis-safari wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari wa ka'abatil-manzari wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) set out on a journey, he would say the takbir (Allahu Akbar - Allah is Greater) three times, and then say: ‘Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqtarinin wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fis-safari wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari wa ka'abatil-manzari wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl.' (Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it ourselves. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from seeing evil, and from the evil consequences of returning to our property and family.) When he returned, he would say this same dua and these words: ‘Ayibuna ila Rabbina ta'ibuna, ‘abiduna, li-Rabbina hamidun.’ (We return repentant, worshipping, obeying our Lord, and praising Him.)
