Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this journey and the goodness of what it contains, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this journey and the evil of what it contains. O Allah, I ask You for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and make the distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, the sorrow of the scene, and bad turns in wealth and family.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadha as-safari wa khayra ma fihi wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadha as-safari wa sharri ma fihi. Allahumma inni as'aluka al-birra wat-taqwa wa minal 'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi lana al-ard. Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safari wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari wa ka'abati al-mandhari wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahli.

This potent dua encapsulates seeking Allah's favor in all aspects of the journey. It asks for protection from unforeseen dangers and negative outcomes, both material and familial. The mention of Allah as 'the Companion on the journey and the Guardian of the family' is a profound source of comfort and trust, assuring the traveler that they are never truly alone and their loved ones are under divine care.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up to travel, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadha as-safari wa khayra ma fihi wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadha as-safari wa sharri ma fihi. Allahumma inni as'aluka al-birra wat-taqwa wa minal 'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi lana al-ard. Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safari wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari wa ka'abati al-mandhari wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahli.' (Sahih Muslim 1342)
