Should I tie it and trust in Allah, or should I let it go and trust in Allah? He said: "Rather, tie it and trust in Allah."
An Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Should I tie it and trust in Allah, or should I let it go and trust in Allah?" He said: "Rather, tie it and trust in Allah."
When to Read
This concept is applicable whenever you are undertaking any task, big or small, for which you are seeking Allah's help. Whether you are starting a new business, embarking on a journey, facing an important exam, or even just leaving your house for the day, it's the perfect time to internalize this principle. Before you begin, take the necessary practical steps – tie your camel, so to speak – and then sincerely place your trust in Allah.
How to Read
This isn't a specific recited dua in the traditional sense, but rather a profound principle for living. It means taking all the material means and precautions available to you for a task, and then wholeheartedly relying on Allah for the outcome. This involves doing your best, preparing diligently, and then letting go of the 'how' and 'when' to Allah, trusting His wisdom and plan. It's about active participation combined with complete reliance.
Virtues & Benefits
This approach cultivates a balanced spiritual and practical life. It teaches us that 'tawakkul' (trust in Allah) is not passive resignation but active effort coupled with sincere reliance. By taking the steps we can, we fulfill our obligation to strive, and by trusting Allah, we acknowledge that success ultimately comes from Him. This prevents both laziness and a reliance solely on our own efforts, which can lead to disappointment. It fosters peace of mind, knowing that you've done your part and entrusted the rest to the All-Powerful.
