بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقُ بَعْضِنَا، شِفَاءُ سَقِيمِنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا
In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land, and the saliva of some of us, may our sick be healed by the permission of our Lord.
Bismillah, turbatu ardina, riqu ba'dina, shifa'u saqimina, bi'idhn-i Rabbina.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when facing a physical ailment, injury, or chronic illness. It's recited by the person experiencing the difficulty or by a loved one on their behalf. The act itself is a beautiful reminder of Allah's power over all things, including healing, and a tangible expression of reliance on Him.
How to Read
The practice, as described in the Hadith, involves taking some of the dust from the ground (ideally a clean area) and mixing it with the saliva from one's own mouth. This mixture is then applied to the afflicted area while reciting this dua. The intention behind it is crucial: to seek healing solely from Allah (swt) while utilizing the means He has provided. It's a practice that combines physical action with sincere supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, coupled with the physical act, embodies the essence of Tawakkul (trust in Allah). It teaches us that even when dealing with physical pain, our ultimate recourse is the Creator. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ demonstrated this method, showing us a practical way to integrate our faith into our physical struggles. It transforms an ailment from a source of despair into an opportunity to deepen our connection with Allah, reinforcing that all healing comes from Him alone (Al-Qur'an 26:80).

‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when someone complained to the Prophet ﷺ about a wound or a burn, the Prophet ﷺ would do this: “With this dust, our earth (mixed with the saliva of one of us) may heal our sick by the permission of our Lord.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5743). In another narration by Muslim, it is mentioned: “In the name of Allah, the soil of our land and the saliva of some of us cure our patient, by the permission of our Lord.” (Sahih Muslim 2194).
